Bela Bartok
Classical

Bela Bartok was one of the leaders of modernism in classical music. Born in Hungary, Bartok researched harmonic and melodic systems of non-Western European cultures and incorporated elements into his own radical compositional system. Along with Debussy, Stravinsky, Hindemith, and Schoenberg, Bartok began the process of freeing music from the harmonic restraints of the previous 300 years. His music features jarring dissonances, odd rhythmic features, and pleasant melodies melded together in a unique way.
