Grunge

L7 was an all-girl grunge band from Los Angeles, active from 1985 to 2000. The group produced six albums, as well as a live album.



The band's name derives from a 1950s slang phrase for "square", rather than being a reference to a sexual position. It was L7's third album, "Bricks are Heavy" (1992), that catapulted the group into the limelight led by their hit single, "Pretend that we're Dead", riding the wave of grunge euphoria at the time.

The group have attracted their fair share of controversy over the duration of their career. At the 1992 Reading Festival, Donita Sparks removed her used tampon while on stage and flung it into the crowd (in response to the crowd's throwing of mud).
