Kataklysm
Death Metal

Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. They call their style "Northern Hyperblast" after an advertisement in M.E.A.T. magazine which described another band called Fear Factory as Hyperblast, referring to the extremely fast blast beats the drummer fuses into the music. Formed in 1992, the line-up changed a few times. At the beginning of their career they were most known for being one of the fastest bands around. The music changed most rapidly after Sylvain Houde left the band, seeing Maurizio Iacono take over the vocals. From being one of the most chaotic bands around they turned into something entirely different on "Victims Of This Fallen World". It's unlike any other record made by Kataklysm, it's their least Death Metal-ish release. They sound more like their former self with "The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate)", though less chaotic and with a touch of Melodic Death Metal. Their line-up has remained relatively stable compared to many other bands within the Metal genre. The drummer, Max Duhamel, is said to have been forced out of the band because of injuries. If you take a look on the line-up you will notice that drummers make out most of the "Former Members" list. Max Duhamel has fought back from injury and participates on Kataklysm's "In the Arms of Devastation". From the original line-up 75% is intact, only Sylvain Houde missing in action. « hide
