Steve Burns
Alt & Indie

Steve Burns? Wait, Steve Burns, isn't that the same guy that was on Blues Clues? That silly kids show on Nickelodeon. Yeah, it is. Steve Burns is the Steve from the show Blues Clues. When I heard he released a cd in 2003 I laughed. ALOT. But when I listened to the first song on this cd, I quickly shut my mouth.

Before he was even on Blues Clues, he was actually a hardcore, punk-rock kid. His first guitar was actually a toy guitar his dad had made him. He started to work on his music skills at his home, and his acting skills at the local theatre. He landed the job for Blues Clues in 1995 and was there for six years. He then decided he needed a change in life. Steve then went to college and kept working on his songwriting skills. He then had a chance to meet with David Fridmann, who has worked with Mogwai and has worked numerous times with the famous band, the Flaming Lips. David then introduced Steve with Steve Drozd, who is the drummer for the flaming lips. Drozd loved what Burns was doing with his song writing abilites and demanded they work together. They then both worked together having Burns play guitar, harmonica, and lead vocals. And then Drozd played bass, piano, and drums. They then released the debut album by Steve Burns called, Songs for Dustmites.

This cd has many different mixes in it. All over this cd, Eels is written on it. When I say this, I mean both songwriting style, and more of the Electro-Shock Blues Eels too. You can also hear that hint of the band Yo La Tengo too. Much of the music is very soft and acoustic, with some nice electronic keyboard stuff too. The lyrics on this cd are just phenominal too. This cd is a must have for the fan of the Eels, and also the fan of just good music. « hide
