Their history, which spans over three decades, has been marked by a series of different line-ups (through around forty changes in members), which of course produced a metamorphic effect on the band's sound, which continually evolved, beginning with a almost jazzy feel in their earliest release ("Hawkwind"), progressing to a more experimental and accoustic sound in other early releases and a more "metal" sound in the seventies, with some of their more recent albums reminiscent of a more electronic feel.
