The Allman Brothers Band is a southern rock/jam rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1969. The bands initial core was founding brothers Greg and Duane Allman (on vocals/organ and slide and lead guitar, respectively) alongside second lead guitarist Dickey Betts, bassist Berry Oakley, drummer Butch Truck, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson also on drums and percussion. The band was helped to mainstream popularity in part by Duane Allman's well-respected guitar playing as well as the bands live improv skills. Sadly, the lives of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley would be cut tragically short by seperate motorcycle accidents, though the band would decide to carry on with Dickey Betts taking over sole guitarist duties.
The band has released 11 studio albums alongside another 7 live discs, and continues to tour and play on festivals into 2009. « hide |
