Belly (USA-MA)

Belly were a short lived alternative rock band from Boston. Forming in 1991, the group are probably best known for their 1993 debut album Star, which managed to be an impressive surprise hit. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards, eventually went gold, and one of the singles from the album, "Feed the Tree", reached number 1 on the Modern Rock charts. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards, eventually went gold, and one of the singles from the album, "Feed the Tree", reached number 1 on the Modern Rock charts. Despite the humongous critical and commercial success that Star garnered, their following album, 1995's King, failed to be anywhere as successful, with only one of the singles, "Now They'll Sleep", breaking the Modern Rock Top 20. Presumably due to the commercial failure of King, Belly ended up splitting in 1996, after only five years together as a group. The members of Belly all went on to embark on different musical endeavors, with frontwoman Tanya Donelly most significantly starting her own solo career. She also temporarily rejoined her original band, Throwing Muses, from 2001 through 2003. In 2016, after two decades apart, Belly shockingly reunited, and the members are currently touring across the US and the UK, with the bandmates also stating Belly are going to record some new material as well. « hide
