The Cancer Conspiracy was an instrumental post-prog/math-prog group from Burlington, VT. Their first EP was released in 2001 by So Good Music, followed by their genre defining full-length The Audio Medium in 2002 (Big Wheel Rec.). They toured extensively with The Blood Brothers, Cave In, Your Enemies' Friends, Piebald, The Damn Personals, and Oysterhead. The Audio Medium was accompanied by a concept likening theories of the government suppressing a cure for cancer to the contemporary state of commercial radio. The group was haunted by unexplainable misfortune throughout their career, and after performing at CMJ 2003 in New York, their van was stolen, along with all of their equipment. Bassist Brent Frattini left the group to join Daughters (Hydra Head Records), while guitarist Daryl Rabidoux and drummer/keyboardist Greg Beadle continued writing new material. Bringing in Johnny Northup (The Burning Paris, The Octave Museum) to fill in on bass, the reformed trio returned to the studio with Matt Squire (Thrice, Hot Water Music, Panic! At The Disco) to record what would become their last eight songs. After spending over three years in legal limbo following the collapse of former label Big Wheel Recreation (Piebald, Jimmy Eat World, At The Drive In), the follow-up to The Cancer Conspiracy's 2002 instrumental post-prog masterpiece The Audio Medium will finally see the light of day.
