P.M. Dawn are a legendary hip hop group that formed in 1987. Founded by brothers Attrell and Jarrett Cordes (known in P.M. Dawn under the respective aliases of Prince Be and DJ Minutemix), the group had impressive global success throughout the early 1990's. Their groundbreaking release, 1991's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss", was a massive hit worldwide, breaking the top 10 charts in Australia, the US, the UK, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, the Netherlands and Sweden. It also was certified gold in the US, and its huge popularity propelled P.M. Dawn to super-stardom for the following three years, both commercially and critically. In 1998, DJ Minutemix was arrested for molesting a family member, and this put P.M. Dawn on an indefinite hiatus in 2000, releasing only one compilation album ("The Best of P.M. Dawn") and one more album through their fanclub only ("Fucked Music") that year.
In 2005, P.M. Dawn made their return by appearing on the television show "Hit Me, Baby, One More Time", and winning the charity money of $20,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Immediately afterwards, however, DJ Minutemix eventually departed from his earlier arrest, and was replaced by the Cordes's cousin Doc G. P.M. Dawn then went on to tour for a few more years sporadically, until eventually disappearing by 2011. In 2016, after dramatically decreasing health, including enduring multiple strokes and a double-leg amputation, Prince Be passed away at the age of 46. This would've seemed to mark the end of P.M. Dawn, although Doc G. would recruit emcee K-R.O.K, and P.M. Dawn would then reform in 2018 under this lineup. « hide |
