Volcano Choir is the combined efforts of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the members of Collections of Colonies of Bees. They
recorded their debut album, Unmap in November 2008. The release date for the album is September 22nd, 2009.
Justin Vernon describes the band's influences as 'David Sylvian and Steve Reich to Mahalia Jackson and Tom Waits' but their
main influence being 'music itself'.
The band's style is atmospheric, textural, and 'landscape-y'. There are little lyrics in the songs, Vernon says, because the
singing is mostly the choir.
