Roger Troutman (November 29, 1951 - April 25, 1999) was a legendary funk musician from Ohio. Best known as the lead singerof
the band Zapp, he also had a moderately successful solo career, and his music in particular is seen as highly influential
amongthe development of West Coast hip hop, thanks to artists like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg who regularly sampled Troutman's

talk box— an effects pedal usually used by guitarists, that Roger connected to keyboards to create robotic-sounding vocals. In
