Mindless Self Indulgence is a NYC based co-ed punk band whose name manifests itself during their incendiary live shows. MSI's music is a hybrid of Atari driven electronics with a venomous splash of A.D.D Punk Rock. They are the breath of fresh air that is sure to offend your p.c. restrained, category demanding, humorless peers.
Electro-trash-inustry-punk-reggae-techno-metal is the only way i can think to describe these guys/gals. They're live perfomances are phenomenal and always entertaining as hell, with singer/programmer/hellraiser jimmy urine spattering off hilarious and memorable lines such as "Who you callin a faggot? Yo, while you out gay bashin i'll be at your house fuckin your girlfriend, IN THE ASS!!" Whether it's climbing up balconies in the hammerstein ballroom in NYC to kiss a random girl for a dollar or pulling out his "member" with a little ditty about its size, he always "brings the pain" in all his performances.
Their album complexity varies from the simple loops of "bitches" to the mind blowing chaos of tracks like "clarissa". Jimmy's electronic programming and indescribable vocals combined with guitarist Steve, Righ?'s incendiary riffs, Lyn Z's solid basslines and Kitty's techno style drumming mesh together to form a totally unique and intriguing sound. Covers including a complete overhall of [wu-tang clan]'s "Bring the Pain" (off their debut lp "Tight") and [Rush]'s "Tom Sawyer" (from their latest effort "You'll Rebel to Anything") are a prime example of this band's multiple influences and styles.
Their most highly reguarded and seemingly most popular album "Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Attractive" sports tracks about everything from the band's opinion on hidden messages in songs to the joy's of mastubation to Jimmy's love for seven-eleven girls and their ability to stay up all night, as well as give him discounts. In the spirit of making a new and unique sound, they tear down the lifestyle and legendary status of [Led Zeppelin]'s Jimmy Page in their song titled (you guessed it) "I Hate Jimmy Page," which is so gripping and compelling that even this Zeppelin fanatic can't resist it's humor combined with it's infectios lyric pattern.
Only in New York, i guess. « hide |
