With boy band N'Sync, Justin Timberlake won the hearts of millions of American teenagers, millions more dollars, and Britney Spears. When that relationship ran afoul, he set out to conquer the world, with a solo album, entitled 'Justified.' With this release Justin set out to distance himself from his boy band past, losing his trademark curly hair in favour of a more mature image, and turned to legends Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder for inspiration.
'Justified' was released in November 2002 to massive acclaim, even from so-called 'respectable' music quarters, and has (as of December 2005) sold over 7 million copies worldwide, thanks in part to the exceptional production of Timbaland, The Neptunes and Brian McKnight. Four hit singles, 'Like I Love You,' 'Cry Me A River,' 'Rock Your Body' and 'Senorita' were released.
Since then he's released one non-album single, the McDonalds theme 'I'm Lovin' It,' and has guested on Nelly's 'Work It' and the Black Eyed Peas' 'Where Is The Love?' 2005 saw a bright start with the release of 'Signs,' a collaboration with rapper Snoop Dogg, but in May Timberlake was diagnosed with a throat condition which required the removal of potentially cancerous nodules; at the risk of losing his singing voice permanently, Timberlake took an extended break from singing.
In late 2005 Timberlake began piecing together what would become his sophomore record, and after months of studio toiling, lead single "Sexyback" became a smash summer hit. The record FutureSex/LoveSounds followed in September 2006, with singles "My Love" and "What Goes Around". In December 2006 Timberlake appeared on late-night sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live for the second time, handling both hosting and performing duties. « hide |
