Igor Stravinsky (June 17th, 1882) is regarded as one of the most important composers of the 20th century. His style swayed from classic roots, to pure experimentalism, and minimalism, but initially he headed the neoclassicism movement, particularly through ballets, The Rite of Spring, and the Firebird suite.
His father was a bass singer, but other than this, he was not completely induced by a household of pure musicians as many other composers had. He underwent piano tuition at a young age and quickly learnt the art for the instrument, having mastered Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G minor at the tender age of 14.
Unlike other composers of the time, Stravinsky was somewhat of a celebrity, having always drawn vast gatherings at his premieres, as well as collaboration with larger than life artist, Pablo Picasso. Sometimes his pieces were felt under the clamour of fist fights due to the often unconventional approach of his musical composition citing further conservatists to discount a lot of his music. « hide |
