They released in total twelve albums that spanned ten years. Two box sets, and last year released their only DVD, Giant on the Box, have been released to continue attracting new generations of fans. Gentle Giant are known most for their intricate time signatures, multi-vocal harmonization, and the sheer number of instruments they would use on many of their albums. These may be typical prog traits, but their eclectic style that infused a heavy classical influence still sets them apart today. As they went on making their albums they eventually became more mainstream, most noticeably on the 1978 release, Giant For A Day. Despite the band's mainstream crossover in the latter of the 70s, the band had been changing their sound to appeal to more mainstream audiences for some while then. The band broke up in 1980. In the 90s the band's popularity grew, which lead to re-releases of many of their albums that also included bonus live tracks. Fans even attempted to try and have the band run a reunion tour, but failed in doing so. « hide |
