De La Soul
Hip-Hop

De La Soul is comprised of Posdnuos (Plug One), Trugoy (Plug Two), and Maseo (Plug Three). The trio was created in 1987. The group was relatively underground, until their 1989 debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising was released (although the album was available as early as 1988 in Germany). Their debut album garnished them considerable respect. The album received positive reviews, and did very well on the billboard chart. Their debut album garnished them considerable respect. The album received positive reviews, and did very well on the billboard chart. It's often considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums of it's era. In 1991, De La Soul's second album, De La Soul Is Dead was released. The album received very positive reviews from critics, but had less commercial success than their previous album, while still doing moderately well. In 1993, their third album, Buhloone Mindstate was released. This album featured more mature lyrics/topics, as well as have a somewhat new sound. While the album still had critical praise, it didn't fair well on the billboard charts. 1996 brought De La Soul's fourth album, Stakes Is High. The album didn't do as well as their previous work, and received mixed reviews, and poor sales. After a 4 year gap, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump was released in 2000, initially planned as a 3 album series. This album put De La Soul back into the charts, with singles like "Oooh" and "All Good?". In 2001, the second part of the series was released, AOI: Bionix. This album was somewhat under the radar, and wasn't noticed that much, it also featured only one single. Although the third installment of the AOI series was planned, it was never released. Instead, 2004's Grind Date appeared in it's absence. It was met with favorable reviews, and did moderately well on the sales charts. In May of 2009, De La Soul's 8th album, Are You In? was released. « hide
