Celtic Frost was the successor to Hellhammer, an early thrash band. Tom Warrior (real name Tom Fischer), the founder of Hellhammer, formed Celtic Frost as an attempt at progressive, unique music without regards to trends. What was created was at the time one of the most brutal bands on the scene. Celtic Frost acted as segue between black, death, and thrash metal styles, combining a muddy, brutally heavy guitar tone with epic, empowering riffs and musical themes. Celtic Frost is usually considered black metal because they were a big influence on the pioneer black metal bands, such as Bathory and Mayhem, both of which covered Celtic Frost songs.
After releasing their three seminal albums, "The Morbid Tales", "To Mega Therion", and "Into The Pandemonium", Celtic Frost disbanded.
