Backyard Babies are a Swedish hard rock group formed in 1987 by guitarist Dregen; singer Tobbe, bassist Johan Blomqvist and drummer Peder Carlsson completed the early line-up of the band, though Tobbe was replaced two years later by Nicke Borg, and this is the line-up which exists to this day.
Drawing their influences from classic punk and '80s hard rock, the group released their first EP in 1991, entitled Something To Swallow, and in 1993 they released their first full-length album, Diesel & Power before Dregen left to spend time on his other project, The Hellacopters.
In 1997, Dregen reunited with the rest of the band to record a second album, Total 13, released later that year. Success still, however, eluded the foursome. It wasn't until they teamed up with veteran geordie rocker Ginger of The Wildhearts that the group tasted commercial success. Having previously worked together in supergroup Super$shit 666, the pair were acquainted with each other's similar styles and tastes. Ginger helped the band write a significant portion of their third album, Making Enemies Is Good, including the hit 'Brand New Hate' from which the album title is derived.
Most recently the band issued the album Stockholm Syndrome in 2003 and the live cut Live Life In Paris in February 2006. The group hopes to release their fifth album People Like People Like People Like Us in April of this year. « hide |
