Ani DiFranco

Prolific American singer-songwriter Ani diFranco is best described as a combination between folk and alternative rock. She is often mentioned as one of the cornerstones of the "anti-folk" genre, though the existence of such a genre is debated. Throughout the 90s diFranco rose to fame as a feminist and leading player in the angsty female rock movement (along with such superstars as Alanis Morrissette and Sarah McLachlan). She is a highly political artist who uses her music to convey her views and her star power to lobby for her causes.
