Review Summary: A great introduction for first time listeners.
In 2011, Thousand Foot Krutch released 'Welcome to the Masquerade - Fan edition' which included the full 13 tracks from the original album as well as three new tracks. As many reviews for the original album has been released, I believe it is only necessary to touch on the new songs.
Oh, I can already imagine how much distain I'm gonna get by doing a TbT. I really don't have a better way to review three songs, however.
'Shook' starts the album off with a bang, with short but hard riffs and high tempo drum beats accompanied by Trevor nearly rapping at some parts of the chorus. The last verse gives the feeling of survival and here we see Trevor ranging his vocals up and down with each line. For some reference, 'Learn to Breathe' from 2007's 'The Flame in all of us' or, to a degree 'Go' from 2005's 'Art of Breaking'. Average nu-metal.
Following 'Shook' is 'Take it out on Me'. This track would be great for introducing first time listeners to the band. It (Take it out on me) has the average amount of bass guitar, crash cymbals and range of vocals a TFK song would normally have. As much of a good song this is, it's really difficult to relate it to other songs by the band - heck, 'Shook' just might be your best bet for songs similar to this. Sorta mainstream, which while not necessarily bad, doesn't make it good either.
At last, 'Anyone else' arrives, with, quite possibly, the most upbeat tone a TFK song has had. After a few listens, I realize this might also be the most Christian-oriented song TFK song yet, with 'Breathe you in' (2005) and 'Watching over me' being close contenders. As for sound, the acoustic guitar gives a nice touch to Trevor's great vocals. While this track does give a nice ending to the whole album, 'Already Home' really suited the job, and would've been much better as a closer.
