Review Summary: Rock With Me

Discipline is a solid progressive rock band that pushes the genre to new heights. Their latest offering “To Shatter All Accord” holds many good facets that anyone of the prog likings could enjoy. With a solid runtime and many memorable aspects, TSAA is a 5 track work of art. Most individuals know Discipline by their early works of Unfolded Like Staircase and Push and Profit which are all solid as well but this latest offering is different and unique. The textures are more subtle and polite and giving. Tracks like “When She Dreams” feels like a sexual prostitute leading you in for pleasurable kill. The nuances are jazzy and playful and command your attention. The drummers soft ride techniques really get you in the zone as the slow melodic intertunes of the guitars dance through various textures, the same as a filthy whore would try to command your attention and beg you to enter her doors.

The vocalist is the really the key here. His raspy voice adds all the grit and glamour one may want to appreciate when listening to. “When the Walls are Down” really shows the vocalist range and drive. A great deal of vibrato makes your brain giggle and toss with waves of sparce degrees and pace. You may even feel a tint of darkness of this all because sometimes the lower toned vocal ranges are untilized and capture a sense of evil and meanness.

“Rogue”, the closer is a progressive masterpiece that keeps building and building until, BOOM, a splurt of goodness releases into tandems of delight and forestry landscapes. The shades of green and black are mononetric and flavorful. Synths blend to riffs and riffs blend to heights. You may feel like you’re an eagle at times waiting moonlight skies to send you back to a tree branch but never does the trance end as layers press against your top section.

I highly recommend this album to any listener of prog and anyone who enjoys good music. Especially for fans of King Crisom, Floyd, Rush, Caravan, Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmera, and Believer.
