Review Summary: No poop, just 'tude.
Of the many bands to back up the self-proclaimed rock 'n' roll terrorist GG Allin in his 17 year crusade against morality and authority, The Jabbers were the first and stuck around the longest. They were also the band behind his best music (though that's not really saying much). This 4-song, 8 minute long EP released in 1982 would prove to be the final studio encounter between these members and Mr. Allin. And also, it turns out to be some of thier catchiest tunes.
Opening up with the title track, the band cuts right to the chase with GG sneering out his adolescant lyrics with an equally adolescant-sounding voice over the Jabbers' speedy pop-punk:
"Anything I wanna do (NO RULES), I wont take no *** from you (NO RULES)/ I dont care if you dont like me (NO RULES), Do you think I really care? (NO RULES)"
These lyrics display a prime example of whats to come: Laughable, careless stupidity delivered to you like a flaming bag of dog *** on your front porch. BUT it has it's perks (unlike firey excrement) in the notion that this is meant to entertain. The music is generic and extremely rushed sounding, but it is also catchy and gone before you can tire of it. The lyrics and vocals are lazy and prepubescant in execution, but they are funny in thier nihilistic and confrontational tone (especially with GG's girlish voice). Also, the production is clean and the mixing impressive by GG Allin standards. The topics of the songs are the standard punk fare; rebellion (No Rules), loserdom (A *** Up), raising hell in town (NYC Tonight), and police malpractice/brutality (Up Against The Wall, a David Peel cover). This EP would also be the last time GG Allin would write a full package of songs that arent either extremely violent, sexual, or explicitly disgusting.
After the Jabbers broke up, GG went on to release one more solid EP with the MC2 (Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thompson) before secluding himself in a cabin and months later emerging with his first display of lo-fi recorded insanity, known as Eat My Fuc. It was pretty much all downhill from there. God knows what happened to the other members of the Jabbers, but it was made clear that Jesus didnt miss them.
