The universe is not being pushed from behind. The universe is being pulled from the future toward a goal that is as inevitable as a marble reaching the bottom of a bowl when you release it up near the rim. Metal is perhaps the only genre that can achieve sheer beauty and unrelenting ugliness simultaneously. The recognition that there is indeed the beauty of humanity to be found in both what is pleasing to eye and in what is hideous has allowed metal to flourish for nearly half a century. True artists find fruitless the act of telling tales and singing bard's songs that speak of flowers and honey - destruction is the more relatable tale, and depression is more prevalent than ever. Where else is there to turn? Beherit knows.

It is no surprise in today's emotionally vapid landscape that artists like Beherit are enjoying a resurgence. After being lied to be our parents, by our teachers, by our world leaders and presidents, a little bit of truth - even if it can only be found in an eleven-minute Finnish metal demo - goes a long goddamn way. And this is the truth.
