Review Summary: Disney Metal

I'm going to put a warning right at the start. If cheese is a problem for you, this album will give you uncontrollable runs.

That said, this album also has strong unique vocals, very strong symphonic elements, and an light-tone, Angra-like power metal vibe that regular power metal fans will surely enjoy. I call it "disney metal" because right from the beginning of And Let the Show Begin, there is a very strong theatrical element to the songwriting that permeates for the rest of the album.

The vocals and symphony elements are indeed the highlight. The soaring and engaging lyrics carry the songs well, and fit the orchestra elements nicely. They are so good in fact, that it is almost to the detriment of the other instruments. The guitar leads are not at the same level as the other A-class power metal acts. They are somewhat thin and could just be more engaging at times.

Other things that the record does have going for it is a good variety of songs. The record has some heavier songs like Spirits of Light along with some softer ballads like Whispers and Pain of Mother Nature. Unfortunately, it is just not consistent enough to really punch through and make this a lasting work of art.

This is a fun listen and an incredible venture considering the rarity of engaging symphonic metal. It really does invent its own kind of genre with the theatrical elements. But at the same time, the record will leave you wanting a little more by the end.
