Review Summary: Five Bolt Main is a hard rock/nu-metal band that can make their way to the top if they can use the talent they have and work together. Chris Volz is their way to get their, the singer is just amazing. If you like Drowning Pool or any hard rock band like
Five.Bolt.Main is a quintet from Louisville, Kentucky lead behind former Flaw vocalist Chris Volz. He does a great job and can help bring this band up. They are very good with the bass and technical work, but they could use more solos, or a solo in this album.
Five.Bolt.Main is:
Chris Volz Â*- vocals
Alex Cando Â*- bass
Ronny Page Â*- guitar
Ivan Arnold - drums
Ivan and Chris were formers of the band Flaw, a nu-metal act on the rise, that sounded a lot like Mudvayne. They then broke up and the two reunited here, as the drummer from Flaw changed twice while Chris was doing vocals.
Sound:
Warning, it is a nu-metal record, but it does involve some cool guitar parts. It is fluent in songs like
Pathetic and
Made Like This. His scream has changed a bit from his days as the Flaw vocalist. The drums are very technical and they keep the beat going. There is a few soft songs that really shine on this album, such as
Seems To Be Fine and
Bid Farewell. The lyrics are what makes this so good.
Lyrics;
Chris Volz has always been one of my personal favorite lyricist. He puts so much emotion into his songs. When he sings, he sounds exactly like Chad Grey from Mudvayne, but in my book, he is MUCH better than Chad. Don't get me wrong, Chad is an amazing signer, this guy just is a freakin' diciple or somethign like that. The way he sings is almost unsurpassable. He is probably the best underrated singer of hard rock. He just puts so much emotion into his songs. The topic that he can sing about changes from time to time, and from song to song. Very good lyrics on this CD.
Impression:
If you like Flaw or Drowinng Pool, get this. Even if you dont like American hard rock or nu-metal, I would recommend this to you. There is no solo's though, but the cool drums and bass keep it going, along with Volz's signature voice. This is the exact opposite of most records like it gets boring near the end. This CD gets better as the end approches. It is almost too short for a good CD, but it is a great CD to have.
