This album is unarguably interesting. The black metal/shoegaze wave that has been sweeping over the scene may have found an emergent voice in Airs. The atmosphere is unmistakably black metal, yet the guitar's shimmering and the ethereal vocals bring to mind Slowdive or the Catherine Wheel. The songs are lengthy and show some post rock influence. The only drawback is a lack of consistency. Track two seems as if the beginning was chopped off during production, and track eight doesn't belong on this album at all. Despite those flaws, this is a very nice listen and this could be one of the better acts in its genre with a little more cohesiveness.
edit: I just listened to Gloomlights, and it looks like Airs has decided to change directions. Their music has no black metal influence at all, and reminded me of Blink182. Very disappointing.
