Awesome musical transposition of "Spoon River Anthology", the collection of short poems from Edgar Lee Masters. But De Andr? doesn't only translate the poems in Italian, he adapt the lines to his peculiar poetry. In that period he was moving from its traditional storytelling, descriptive and focused on a vague Medieval time, to a more classical poetic style, not yet cryptic but already trying to use the power of words to create a shield between the listener and the story being told. Master's poems are perfect a perfect field for experimentation, and he chooses wisely among the inhabitants of Spoon River: he chooses outcasts, separate from the rest of the world by their job, their physical condition or their peculiar inclination towards life. Or maybe they are not outcasts, just normal people, that stood out from the crowd of human characters for the authors (De Andr?/Masters) dedication towards finding in every man something special, a unique point of view.
