Review Summary: A great first effort

Get Scared is a newly formed band from Utah. They have managed to garner support for their music through Myspace and are begging to gain some steam. This is their first EP. Put simply they are an easily accessible alt rock/hardcore band. Their vocals and guitar are the most prevalent on the album. Although the album is very simple and does have its weak points it is enjoyable and fun to listen to. Because the album only has six songs (and I am a complete noob reviewer…) I am going to give a track by track review.

Setting Yourself Up for Sarcasm 4/5
This is probably my favorite track on the EP. It begins with a clean guitar intro then solely progresses into the chorus. The song has great variety without choppy transitions. The structure of this song is good as well and somewhat unpredictable. This is also the first sign of Get Scared’s uncreative lyrical achievement (for example: “If this is love I don’t wanna be loved!”).

Lock the Doors 3/5
Lock the Doors is a heavier track. The song includes yelling, whispering, screaming and singing which keeps it interesting. Near the end there is an inclusion of bells that causes a cool climax to the song before its end.

The Finer Things 3.5/5
The song is fast paced and has simple guitar the whole way through. Like many of their other songs the end is yelled, there are whispered parts and a catchy chorus. Very weak lyrics though. For example the chorus relies on the line “I’m such a foolish mother f***er!”.

If Only She Knew Voodoo Like I Do 4/5
This was the bands first song released to promote the album and for obvious reasons. Its simple guitar riff is real catchy and Nick does a good job emotionally with singing. Near the end a Screaming breakdown is thrown in and then quickly cuts into the chorus being whispered with piano playing the guitar riff in the background. Definitely a fun song.

You Are What You Are 3.5/5
This song comes in the same vein as The Finer Things as far as the song goes and but with a very simple yet catchy chorus. The last third of the song is harshly screamed and works well before busting into one last chorus.

The Blackout 1/5
At least they may be able to learn from this song. This is the only slow track on the album and it does not work. Nick’s voice just sounds awfully out of place and the whole song makes me want to fall asleep. What a bad way to end a pretty good album.

All in all get scared has created an enjoyable album that is easily accessible even to those that are not into this genre of music. There tracks are infectiously catchy. If the band could improve their lyrics and include more interesting guitar work they could be on a road to some success.

Try to stray away from track by tracks, even if the album is only 6 tracks long. You use some good grammar though, keep up the writing and you'll be on the right track dude

Thanks. I knew from reading comments left on other track by tracks that most on this site hate them. I mostly did this review to practice and just see how the site works.
