Review Summary: On The Catch/SSAW: Liem's one man project delivers the soft IDM goodies that recollects the innocence of childhood.

Hopefully (to the person reading this) I would hope that you had a secure fun childhood. A time of innocence, fun, running around in the sun-simply a time of no worries. As we grow older into adults, we also benefit from becoming more knowledgeable and more in control with our own lives. But once in a while, I do get caught up wishing I was that young child again. Just to go back and for a moment not feeling the worldly pressures around me. Well for those who do get caught up in those moments: Shaw-Han Liem (aka I Am Robot And Proud) has been creating a unique collection of ear candy albums that certainly can remind anyone of their childhood.

Liem has been at it for quite a while (since 2001) making these album treats in the electronic world. With his lush keyboard tones and creative (but soft!) electronic beats: this is quite possibly some of the softest electronic pop songs that you will ever hear (think childhood innocence). He has pretty much followed up on the same formula for all his songs but he pretty much nails it every time and keeps is consistently fresh. He actually released the albums The Catch and Spring Summer Autumn Winter as two separate albums back in 2001. But as of 2007 has re-released the albums together in one sweet package.

The album is quite homogeneous as all the songs are intertwined in a similar formula Liem uses for every song. Aside from the slightly explosive opener (The Catch): the rest of the songs tend start out on a soft lush keyboard chords or melody lines and eventually build (ever so softly) back up and down behind soft IDM drumming. Despite all the songs sounding the same-y they all come out enjoyable and are certainly easy to get lost into.

Even if you're not into the nostalgic memories of childhood: I Am Robot And Proud has something for everyone. The soft lushness of his music is perfect to lounge/relax to. All his albums are worth checking out but The Catch/SSAW would be a good place to start to understand his body of work/style (which he does slightly expand on in future albums). Ultimately, if you're a fan of indie pop, electronica, IDM, or you simply like soft lush music this is a must check out to add to your collection.
