Review Summary: Local heroes, Well, Hello further progress their sound with more technical songwriting then they've ever written before.
Well, Hello, local heroes from the east end of Long Island have made some drastic changes in the past 6 months. Between many lineup changes, many months of months of hibernation and hiatus, they have finally returned to the scene with a new EP entitled "Summer Sessions." This new EP shows a vast change in sound, drawing influences from such bands as Damiera, and other artists with similar sounds.
Lyrically, "Summer Sessions," is similar to the group's previous effort, "Couture." Songs about relationships gone wrong, without all the whining. That is not to say that they are lyrically generic. In fact, they are more original that most albums I've heard with a similar sound. The area in which they changed the most is the songwriting. With the addition of a new guitarist Ryan, who counterparts with original guitarist Randy, they harmonize each others guitar leads perfectly. Just listen to the intro of
Holding Your Own Head Underwater. You can tell that these two musicians feed of eachother while playing, while at the same time coming up with melodic, catchy, and technical leads. New drum patterns have been added, with new time changes not seen on their previous effort, making the music more appealing, while staying talented at the same time.
"Summer Sessions," is not only a great preview for what is coming, and what direction Well, Hello is heading in, but it also a great release period. While Well, Hello remain unsigned, there is not a doubt in my mind that these guys will go far.
