Review Summary: This is a tight band with an interesting sound and style and the fact they came into being in 2016 makes their first outing even more accomplished.

Kaera Vane, the atmospheric metal three piece band from Greece, has released its debut album titled With L.U.V. The sense of melody and forward motion demonstrated in their compositions is impressive and the collection of seven songs is poised to strike a right chord with fans of the genre.

The Greek outfit plays an emotionally charged mixture of atmospheric metal with plenty of occult rock and progressive rock influences. They choose foreboding atmosphere over intensity and this is something that works in their favour because they tap into the female vocalist’s potential. This is an album devoid of harsh, aggressive vocals, distorted guitars and drums with the sound getting its proper density with Kaera Vane’s powerful, evocative and haunting vocal performance.

The frontwoman’s voice has an impact on the album possessing this certain something that makes atmospheric metal and goth rock work. It’s in good company because Jimmy Tott’s guitar work and Thanos Conchis’s drum pattern are very engaging and rich in mood and emotion. The title track ‘’With L.U.V. (Lucifer Under Vice)’’ is a prime example of haunting vocals, atmospheric moods, hard-hitting drums and heavy guitars.

The opening track ‘’Murder 666’’ and ‘’My Face’’ both have a progressive vibe taking their time to build upon the emotion they attempt to convey.

On ‘’Mavro Vals’’ which translates as Black Waltz, Kaera Vane sings in Greek in what feels like a lover’s lament. It’s the only song in With L.U.V. that blends greek folklore with progressive rock, metal. There are hints of folk music on the last track titled ‘’Win’’ where according to the band the bass line has been inspired by traditional Greek music.

This is a tight band with an interesting sound and style and the fact they came into being in 2016 makes their first outing even more accomplished.
