3.4 great | Erwann S. STAFF | October 12th 22 | Chill, jazzy rap whose beat smoothness is kinda dampened by a vocal delivery that's at times too timid to be impactful. Gud vibes are constantly present though, which makes it a perfect morning coffee jam.

0.0 | Dewinged STAFF | April 5th 17 | Wonderful record really. I love the jazzy instrumentation and the general laid back, down to earth vibes of the songs. Finishing with a Mum & Dad feature as a hidden song was a sweet thing too. All in all, lovely chap and lovely album.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | March 24th 17 | Loyle brings passion and a clear drive for his craft in his lyrics but Yesterday's Gone is just a bit monotone and mild overall. The production and jazzy, instrumental beats are excellent and the best part about this album. The flow and lyrics are all around good and interesting but Loyle sounds the same in every verse. From the separate elements here it is clear that Loyle is capable of greatness but it will take a more dynamic, varied vocal approach to make that happen.

3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | February 5th 17 | Ever the earnest and heartfelt individual, Loyle Carner seems less likely to be a rapper and more likely to be a guidance counselor. Yet, he seems to be doing a decent job at the former, so good for him. Yesterday's Gone is his full-length debut that houses a lot of potential, but also some general missteps. He's a very relaxed emcee, giving out a delivery dripping with melancholic nostalgia, but he never really switches this up save for "No CD", which is a triumph. The production, while certainly beautiful and smooth, is almost too laid back for its own good, though they do make for some pretty sweet songs in the case of "Damselfly" and "Ain't Nothing Changed". Carner is at his best when he draws a picture of the lives and the scenery around him, as he can do so very vividly, but he often spends a lot of time on himself. That's not a bad thing in and of itself, but he's not that all terribly interesting. It's clear he has the ambition to be a noteworthy emcee in the U.K. hip-hop scene, and this is a decent first step, but he'll have to improve if he wants that title.
