Two excellent Swedish screamo bands, one a stalwart going a decade strong and one a group of upstarts who have some great years ahead of them, are the subject of this very good split LP. And I must say, Shirokuma's side beats out Suis La Lune's, which I hadn't expected. And it's not like Suis La Lune's side is bad or even average; it's really good, but Shirokuma edges it out. The two sides are played in similar styles, but Suis La Lune's drifts into post-rock territory more often while Shirokuma's bursts forward with an impassioned performance from everyone involved. The drummer and vocalist both are so engaged in the emotiveness of their playing and screaming it that it's almost too easy to miss just how excellent the riffs are. Suis La Lune is a bit softer, but no less full of emotion, choosing to work with a subdued melancholy rather than tearful aggression. It's nice to see both bands putting forth some quality stuff here, but you'd be hard pressed to assume they'd do anything but.
