3.5 great | Rockjocky | November 9th 15 | If you're looking for Bareilles' usual female pop, you may be disappointed in this album. However, if you enjoy the clarity and beauty of her voice and want to hear it placed into standard Broadway Musical form, you'll certainly enjoy this release. Make no mistake, each song is branded with her signature, playful delivery but from the start, it's apparent that this music belongs to a stage production.r

0.0 | Wildhoney | March 6th 19 | I saw the musical a few months back. It was very good and so was the music, especially "A Soft Place to Land", which made me cry. I still listen to that track from time to time - it could easily fit on one of her albums and be a highlight. The rest of the songs don't stand as well by themselves but were a joy to see performed live. As for the show, the playful music helped lighten the relatively heavy tone of the movie and afforded the play a certain mass appeal, even if it turned out a bit too saccharine for my taste. If anything, listen to "A Soft Place to Land" and watch the excellent movie.
