A little more subtle and not as in your face as his other scores, however, I don't believe this to be William's fault, but more just the way the movie was directed sound design wise. At first it feels like a subpar score for Williams, but is just more deep and grows the more I listen to it.

A lot more subdued than previous soundtracks, but The Jedi Steps and Finale is one of the best compositions to ever exist in Star Wars (in my opinion at least.)

It features many new themes, among which Rey's theme stands out. The orchestration is superb as always and the album constantly flows.

Not the same grand, bombastic score you'll likely expect. The score was actually one of the things that felt short for me in the film, and hearing the music itself confirms that suspicion. Depending on what direction Episode VIII goes, this may be a sign of what to expect on Williams' next effort, so we'll see if he can work some potentially darker wonders more effectively there. What we have here is still great stuff and nice for putting on in a number of scenarios, but it's also probably the most difficult Star Wars score to immediately and recognizably call upon.
