0.0 | LivingThrowaway | June 24th 15 | EAI has been growing closer to chamber music and lowercase over the past 5 years or so; the incorporation of
conventional instruments, juxtaposed against the electronic warbles, bleeps, bloops and squeals the genre is
known for, becoming more noticeable.
Relatively well-known EAI and Lowercase artists Anne Guthrie and Billy Gormberg combine to bring us three
hypnotic, yet unassuming improvisational pieces. Guthrie's french horn and bass guitar often combine with
electronic manipulations, field recordings and pre-recorded work to create an experience that may go past
unnoticed if not paying full attention, but one that ultimately rewards the listener for their patience.
Extinguishment, although nothing new for EAI, builds upon the foundations set by so many before them and
brings the genre even closer to normality; incorporating melody and timbre into what is otherwise a genre more
interested in academic expression than emotional expression.
