Review Summary: Violent.

Wielding their blistering self-titled EP, Venomspitter seek to disrupt the defenceless inner workings of the listeners ear- and they’ll succeed in less time than it takes to register the assault. In just over eleven minutes, this bite-sized album packs a disproportionately large punch. You see, amidst all the genre-bending, genre defying, experimental trial-and-error fodder, there are bands like Venomspitter; a source of pure, streamlined chaos without decorative distraction. Delivered here is a hardcore album that channels all the connotations associated with such a title, creating an enthralling clash of high-pitched guitar dissonance, a healthy splash of drumstick abuse, pulsating bass lines and Tom Araya-esque vocals with a touch more upper register bite. The production perfectly captures and balances the warring factions, so that even amongst the carnage a thrumming bass guitar still bubbles below the surface, evidenced particularly well on ‘Paige Monroe’. The album begins and ends with the fading screech of overdriven guitar strings, which gives the product a sense of cohesion. Trebly, tremolo picked riffs alternate with palm muted downstrokes, while the drummer splashes and crashes his way through the aural attack perpetrated by the strained shouts of the vocalist. As closer and longest track on Venomspitter, ‘Monument’ best summarises the various components displayed throughout the album’s length, even selfishly revealing some lightning-fast bass lines that reignite interest just as the EP is winding down. Whether its size is a necessary strength and genre staple, or the sign of a frustrating snack that awakens a hunger it can’t satiate, the quality and content within Venomspitter coupled with it’s diminutive running time demands repeated listens. I for one cannot bear to deny that demand.

"genre-bending, genre defying,". Might be a nitpick of mine, but if you're doing 1-2 paragraph reviews, definitely try not to repeat a word in such close proximity. Stands out a lot, even if it makes perfect sense in context.

"The album begins and ends with the fading screech of overdriven guitar strings." Try and flesh this sentence out a bit, feels a bit stunted how it is.

Really great review though, nice and concentrated. Even though I'm starting to get tired of seeing so many short reviews, the short running length warrants it and you absolutely nailed the format. Pos'd hard, will check this out m/

Cheers guys, and thanks for the feedback CTD. The repetition on the first bit was intentional, I was doing it for effect but I might consider changing it. I will build upon the second point though, good catch and I see what you mean.

Downloaded this and enjoyed it a lot, closer was beastly. You might want to mention that it's a 'Name Your Price' in the lead comment, that pulls a lot more people in.

Done. Glad you liked it. And yeah i understand what you mean with the surplus of shorter reviews, but I thought I'd try something different, this is probably my shortest review.
