Review Summary: Two personalities at polar opposites of the musical spectrum, yet similar in many ways.
This sounds like pure, unadulterated noise.
Noise that calms you, makes you get into the rhythm. Noise that pushes you to the brink of insanity, or even confusion at what the hell you even just heard. This is a split between A Slow Descent and (Apparitionist) Sensory Deprivation, two Sputnik projects that are one in the same, yet on the polar opposites of the musical spectrum. Side one of the split, Sensory Deprivation’s half, is six minutes worth of disturbingly chilling, yet dense, sound collages. Known for his creative sound collages and quick do-it-yourself post-hardcore music, Sensory Deprivation, no holds barred, makes great use of the vast amount of material around him in his contributions
Depleted Music and
Flaccid Whaling. It’s even perhaps the best material he has created yet, and shows a potentially new direction that he could explore. A Slow Descent’s half is nothing like the previous, as mentioned before. Whereas Sensory Deprivation used his half to display his crafty sound collages, A Slow Descent uses his time wisely by including two tracks that not only go back to his spacey roots, but explore new territory and sounds as well.
Somniloquy effectively showcases A Slow Descent’s prowess as a composer, whilst
Adderall’s crunchy synth-dance beat implies that he could be going off in an new direction as well as a musician. The two personalities on this recording are very different, yet so similar in many ways – it’s absolutely uncanny.
