Review Summary: Solid release from Ex-Arch Enemy guitarist
After leaving Arch Enemy for the umpteenth time, Chris Amott tried his hands at a number of side/solo project. Armageddon is a band that he created in 1995 and the band released their first album in 1997 while playing in AE. Their new album "Captivity and Devourment" consists of 10 awe-inspiring and ingeniously crafted songs, full of devastating riffs, soaring guitar leads and fist pumping choruses. Heavy, melodic, technical, and groovy: this is creative metal songwriting with one foot in deep in the classics and one eye gazing towards the distant future.
The album has a nice balance of fast and slow songs. Production is crisp and thick, and all the band members do a great job. Obviously, Armageddon is still a very low-profile band with minimum exposure which is a shame, the band is miles better than most of the New-wave American metal bands which have bigger profiles. There are a couple of filler songs here but overall, it’s a solid release. I hope the band gains more fame in the future and build on this album as they seem to have pretty much perfected their sound on this outing. Metal fans will enjoy the nice mix of Traditional Metal and metalcore offered here.
