Review Summary: to conclude this review its clear upon hearing this cd that every member of g-unit is hungry just like its 2003, will they achieve the same mainstream success? probably no, as like i said, the game has changed to much for them to fit in unless they set a

OK, it's 2014, the hip hop scene has changed massively from the early to mid 2000's. The G-unit camp as we once knew to be strong and hard hitting from 2002 - 2008 have been no more up until now. After minor shots fired over the radio and social media here and there and even an announcement by Tony Yayo himself that G-unit were no more they all made a surprise comeback at the 2014 summer jam in new york.

Following up a long string of remixes and freestyles from the G-unit group now fully function with the original 3, Lloyd banks, Tony Yayo, 50 Cent. (I Class young buck as an original but that's just me but hes back too) but any how Kidd Kidd has also been added to the squad.

The beauty of independence was dropped with no promotion or build up and completely out of the blue and for download only.
and as the name suggests, completely independent.

So right off the bat its evident G-Unit are not bothered about commercial success. Now its about the fans, raw and honest hip-hop that the fans love.

Kicking the EP off with no long flashy intros is the first track - "Watch Me" as soon as the beat starts we get the nostalgic "G-unit in the house, what nigga, what?" which should be enough to but a smile on any g-unit fan. the song has powerful verses from all 5 members, sounding hungry and motivated. even better when the re-signed young buck kick starts the first verse which for the unit fans is really reassuring 5/5

the second track "i dont *** with you" slows down in to a mobster like slow horn and bass beat with aggressive lyrics with g-unit sounding like they mean business. however the absence of lloyd banks is evident. and a disappointment. but still a great grimy track 4/5

Half way mark now of the 6 track EP, we hit "digital scale" a cool sounding slow number again about drugs, money, and more drugs, no one but g-unit could pull of such a linear subjected track with such style and charisma. "Bagging up half a brick my lawyer sitting on the couch, he say its cool buck i swear i wont open my mouth" Young bucks aggressive charisma is a stand out along with tony yayos verse. again a minor disappointment with no lloyd banks present. 4/5.

speeding up the tempo now we hit "dead a pussy nigga" my personal favorite on the EP for a few reasons. one being its a faster and more aggressive track, it has verses from all 5 members that are strong and bounce off each other like wild fire. each members verses being equally as good especially when lloyd banks drops right after 50 cent. the climax of the track however would be right when Kidd Kidd spits "Yayo in the cut with the tech up" Tony yayos verse here is among one of the best verses in his career, he wrangles the words with speed, whit and it just sounds great "We get it poppin, my strap have em flopping like lebron, teflon don, roley on my arm, south side born" on this occasion he actually outshines his peers which is rare. 5/5

A song with deep meaning involved is rare for G-Unit, off the top of my head i can only think of a hand full, however changes is a stand out track on the EP becuase it covers the struggles of each member in the recent past, especially 50 cents falling out with interscope, as much love as i have for this track g-unit should keep these songs at 1 per CD at the most, they are gems that shouldnt be overdone. 4/5

Rounding off the album is a typical g-unit track "the plug" again about guns, drugs, girls, and balling, in a classy fashion of course, a great reassuring 5 member strong track with solid structure and lyrics, a great ending track to end a great comeback EP. 4/5

to conclude this review its clear upon hearing this cd that every member of g-unit is hungry just like its 2003, will they achieve the same mainstream success? probably no, as like i said, the game has changed to much for them to fit in unless they set a new trend. but the hunger and the fans are there, and are very much looking forward to the next EP and full group project late 2014. only disappointment from the ep is the absence of lloyd banks from tracks 2 and 3. but thats it.

overall a 4.5/5 this should be a classic in years to come.

Good review, album seems interesting, but a bit of advice: try not to do track-by-tracks in the future, the site's not very fond of them

title is pretty redundant, is there anything negative associated with independence?
