Review Summary: The hottest rapper in the game does a 360 to talk about the heavier stuff like god sex drugs and family. It's a departure and greatly anticipated return to form that blindsided the critics and fans!
This album is one of Lecrae's best works but definitely not his greatest. Although it's one of my favorites for sure! I was sitting at home waiting for this album to drop when I finally got to listen to it and boy was I experiencing a mixture of my emotional when I heard the first listen of Anomaly by Lecrae!
Here's some back story about Lecrae, he was born in Houston in Texas and became a christian when he was a teenager.
So knowing that this makes this album a little more interesting to listen to because you can hear influences of Taxes and influences of being a teenager on this album. So without further o doo let's dive right in, thanks!
Also a bunch of people said they liked my first tracks by tracks review so im doing another thanks guys your best! please subscribe.
1. Outsiders - It was produced by John Legends you can tell because of the piano parts sound verrry much like John Lennons and its a good classic hip hop beat reminiscent of the iconic Bruce Hornsby sample (The Way it Is) on the hit Tupac track Changes. So he pays his respects to his predecessors with the song but its still not very good the lyrics are contrived and thoughy provoking so 4 stars.
2. Welcome to America - is an industry beat like Nine inches of nails and it makes alot references to Ellis Island. The drums arent so good but at the same time its the best drums from a lecrae album i think It might be Josh Freese on the drums. It has a down home feel thats why this is the only song on the album to get 4 stars.
3. Say I Wont - This song features andy mineo who is a white christian rapper and its about diversity for this reason. Not a stand out track both lecrae and andy are pretty weak rappers but it has a good message about the differences between color so I think kids should definitely listen to it. I give this a thumbs up
4. Nuthin - the lead single of the album. it has a down home feel which i like but is mostly about gang huslting and things you wouldnt hear on a chrsitian album so I deleted this one off itunes.
5. Fear - Great not good. Sounds like the childish gambinos with extra flow and extra bars. But its not a standout track for me so I give it 7. probably delete this one too.
6. Anomoly - my least favorite off the entire album. too goseply for the rest of the album to be good. It was very bangers before this and I loved alll the songs so far! ill give this one 4 and a half stars because it really is one of the best but probably the only one Ill delete off the album for undiscolesd reasons.
7. through 13. - The best songs on the album are right here. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. and 13. are top lecrae songs where he shows off his lyrical range with a bunch of down beats that I really didnt get into until the 3rd or 4th listen. Standout tracks with poor production that makes me feel the album was rushed but i deleted most of them off my utunes so the album flows much better.
14. Broken - This is where lecare talks about the heavy stuff on his ablum like SEX! The song has Kari Jobe on it who he sings about the struggles of sexual and alternate sex like homosex and he really digs deep this is my favorite song on the album cuz of the sex talk.
15. Messenger - this is a big closer with a big hook and not much else. the lyrics are awful and lecrae feels tired in his rapping style. this makes the song unlistenable due to all these things and then some! i give it 2 bigs thumbs up because this album needed a solid closer and thats what we got!
I've only listened to this album one time so far so this is a first impressions review but so far i love it!! Probably my favorite lecrae album its better than stillimatic. only had to delete 5 or 6 of the songs that i didnt like but i recovered them from my recycle bin when I listened to this album on my 2nd or 3rd listen to judge it fairly. but now im going to re delete them cuz the album is better without them.
Prose:
Broken - Great song about sex
Big beats
Not enough songs to be a full record. Could've used 5 or 6 more songs
Cons:
Really bad songs. He didnt try as hard as his other ablums
too much texas influence that ruins the sound
the beats are weak and the album was rushed
it's 27.50 dollars on excesssoundlab and that's too expensive
I give it 3 stars for the down home feel we all love from Lecare!!
This is my second review thanks so much for the positivity feedback I got from the first one please subscribe and comment!
