One of Zorn's avantgarde modern classical releases. Opener "For Your Eyes Only" is a jump-cut piece and easily the most interesting song here. "Christabel" is an underwhelming two-parter, and "Carny" is a 13-minute piano solo. The five-part title track has good moments, but doesn't wholly satisfy. Overall, Angelus Novus is worthwhile, but not among Zorn's best.
