Some albums create a musical atomosphere that takes your breath away. Catology is not one of those albums. Created by the band Technicolor Dreamcast, it uses a different approach on what music is. It isnt exactly a concept album. But it has a concept to it. It isnt a comedy album, but it has comedic aspects to it. It isnt a Experimental record, but it has different types of sounds that have never been heard together before. It can be only be described by one word and that is Catology.

1. Catolgy 3:08- Starts off with drums and kicks off into the guitars. There are lyrics, but are hard to tell what they are untill about three quarters in to the song. The song sings about how Dogs are mans best friend and how cats get no respect. They form a revolution against the four legged woofies and kill off the dogs. Lyrics like "Knock down the doggy doors and throw the poochies in the oven" show the cats use Nazi like manuevers to execute their revolution. A little weird and not the greatest opener but still is fun to listen to. 4/5.

2.Sloth Convention 3:11- The second single off the album features a catchy guitar riff from the start and uses complex drumming and lyrics to make one of the best songs off the album. The song is about a sloth who is angry about poachers who kill off all of his friends. He then goes to a sloth convention to find more comrades to hang out with. He then dreams about one day killing the poachers. Amazing song with a great riff and chorus. 5/5.

3. Down To The Bayou 2:10- The very first single off the album. Uses samples of the song "Venus" and puts in lyrics about creative inventions that help our everyday lives. Great drum work and keyboard work make this song a 5/5.

4.Halley Waily Sugars and Pailies 1:38- One of the filler songs on this album. A simple drum beat and rap about a dog named Halley who beats cats and licks her fur all day long. Goofy lyrics but it doesnt have much depth to it. 3.5/5

5. She Died, So I Went To The Moon 3:14- Moon features an acoustic guitar riff and a very high pitched Matt Malek singing. Malek shows off his vocal range and hits notes all over the scale. The song lyrics are very random but still focus around one main topic. A man's wife died so the man went to the moon and asked the moon why did his wife die and the moon tells him why. Fun song to listen to and great lyrics.5/5.

6.True Ghetto 3:50- A rap about how hard life can be in the suburbs of Detroit. Song has a nice drum beat with piano fills over. Rapping isn't top notch spit fire which brings the song down. This song is a big fan fvorite at concerts. The lyrics are great and humorous and make this song a 5/5.

7.Cows in the Pasture Part One 1:18- Instrumental. Nothing special just some effects and samples taken from the song "Pop Punk Show". 1/5

8. Dueling Recorders 1:52- Only song written on this album not by Matt Malek or Matt Fisher. Featuring the vocals of Chief Pattywan and Chippywahtay, this song was recorded at a Native American fire where the Native Americans sang this song before they went on the hunt to buffalo. It is very nice to listen to with great pounding drums and nice recorder work. 3/5.

9. Pop Punk Show 2:35- This song is a parody of the punk rebellion against politics. Features raspy vocals and a few guitar riffs. This song can get boring after times. The lyrics are nice though to listen to. Worst non filler song on this album 2.5/5.

10. Evil In The Cantelopes Bosom 2:12- Amazing song. Featuring high pitched vocals, great guitar riffs, and a xylaphone. Lyrics arent anything special but they dont have to be with this grooving rythym section. 5/5

11. Murder On 5th Street 4:12- This song is hard to classify. It isnt rock. It isnt techno. It basically isnt anything. It features a main catchy keyboard riff which set a creepy back tone to the song. The main part of the song though is the played out murder in the background of the song. A man goes to his friends house to play poker, when his friend doesnt answer the door the man goes in to see whats up. He finds his friend laying dead on the ground and he is suddendly attacked. The rest of the song is the killer chasing after the man until he finally shoots him. Creepy song especially if you hear some of the rumors behind it, where one of the Matt's was knocked out accidently when they were creating the murder sounds. Breath taking song 5/5.

12. Cows in the Pasture Part 2 0:57- First song recorded for this album. Nothing special except for the moo opera at the end. 3/5.

13. Ball of Yarn (Playtime) 1:07- Another one of the filler song. It was suspossed to be a joke by the band and uses loud car horns to create a funny effect. 2/5

14. Stoplight Chili 2:42- Recorded in 30 minutes by the Technicolor Dreamcast, which is remarkable seeing how popular the song is getting with fans. Features Carl Malek singing vocals over a heavy simple riff. Only metal Hard Rock song on this album but they made it count. 5/5.

15. Frisky's Snowcast Flurry/Why You Little 4:45- Long techno song which can get boring after awhile. The best part of the song is at about 3:50 when the techno drums end and a loud ensamble of horns, blast out into a weird short undescribable brass section. 3.5/5.

16. You Are The One That I Adore 3:52- The Technicolor Dreamcast were trying to mock emo songs and acoustic songs with this one but it actually turned out quite nice. A little long at parts but the lyrics are sweet and sincire and the guitar is peaceful and lovely. Nice song to play for your girl. 4/5

17 The Final Collapse 3:41- Final song off Catology. Great strong drums and guitars which add a pounding feel to the song, like a wall falling down. Lyrics start where the song Catology left off. I wont tell you what happened to the Cats beacuse that would just ruin the ending. 5/5

Overall this album is amazing. It deserves a 4 though because it has some filler songs.

Pretty sweet album. I checked out the Technicolor Dreamcast website and the songs were better than I thought that they would be. Good review too.
