I discovered The Glorious Sons on Sirius XM Iceberg. "Mama" was just starting and I was blown away...incredible vocals, great bass & guitar, rocking beat, and a harmonica solo! I hadn't heard anything like this in a while. In fact, I pretty much had stopped listening to "new" rock. My favorite band is the Rolling Stones. I love rock rooted in the blues. I love the Doors. I love Led Zeppelin. I love the Who. Springsteen is great. Classic rock. I pretty much gave up on these new rock/indie bands. They seemed to have lost their touch with the roots of rock and roll. And then I bought the Shapeless Art EP. Can't get it on USA iTunes (only Canada), so order it ASAP. The next song released (with video) was White Noise. It's the intro song on the CD. What a ride. The song is a rush and the video is hilarious. This band is solid. You really hear all the instruments being played and like the Stones it's all woven together seamlessly. They have an edge to them, they have range. They can go soft or hard or both. Check out "Ruby," it would seem they used the stereotypical slow start with vocals with minimal back-up and then everyone just starts jamming after the first verse. You've heard the pattern used before, but there is nothing stale about this. It is new, it is fresh and it will keep you listening over and over. While the music is great, the lyrics are equal to the sound. Deep stuff, not cliche rock and roll rhymes. Ruby: "If your heart hurts, then your a victim of love and a victim of your own pride." Caroline: "I've been here once or twice before seen this kind of thing, way your moving back and forth, eyes fixed on my wedding ring, but I don't know where I'm going and sometimes your better off not knowing." Shapeless Art: "She said don't you ever stop trying, I told her I would not but I was lying, I'm afraid of seeing things dying, don't you ever stop trying...." And the song "Baby"...well it feels like it should be on Led Zeppelin I. That's how good it is. Now just when you think it can't get any better...you have to see these guys live. Saw them in Toronto opening for the Trews 4/26/14. Not a lot of people around me seemed to know them. But when they were finished every one was talking about them. THEY CAN PERFORM LIVE! No engineered gimmicks in the sound booth. These guys are the real deal! Didn't want to spoil the rush, so we left and didn't even hear the Trews. All we wanted to remember was that "Glorious" performance. The only complaint I have about the EP is that there are only 6 songs. Can't wait for their first LP.
