Review Summary: Auto tune, you may hate it, so do I, but it was BADLY needed here
I know that about 99% if this sites users will have no clue who this band is, where they're from, or what genre they are but whatever, I'm reviewing this album anyway.
The "Runaround Kids" are a 3 piece indie rock band hailing from Yorkshire, UK. They play at small clubs, have about 500 facebook fans, and about 500 Twitter followers. So yeah, they're not very big. Like, at all. But still, this album came to me through a friend of mine, who claims this band is one of the greatest in the world. Hearing this, I borrowed the CD and gave it a listen. It starts off sounding a lot like a really bad very early Blink-182 album. And that is when the singing started...
Yeah I don't know the singers name, but he doesn't deserve this title. I give him a lot of pros for not using auto tune at all, I'll give him that. But seriously, it sounds like he has a serious throat infection. The backing vocals guy sounds far better, and should probably replace their lead.
The song writing is alright, the lyrics are not amazingly poetic, they're what you'd expect from an indie rock band, all about getting girls drunk, going to clubs and basically teen romance bull***. I have nothing wrong with that, I enjoy Teenage Dirtbag-esque lyrics. However these guys enjoy adding swear words, where they really aren't needed. Guys, a Parental Advisory sticker does NOT mean you're a big shot hard ass.
The sound is alright. The guitar sound is very reminiscent of the sound on Nirvanas In Utero. The drums are probably the best part, the drummer can clearly drum, its just a shame the guitarists lack skill. The the guitars are almost constantly power-chording. How about some epic solos guys?!
Anyway I found this album listenable at best, Beach Night is the BEST song on the album, and the reason for the 2.5 rating
