A spectacular mix of muscular Doom Metal (Candlemass, While Heaven Wept), soaring traditional
Heavy Metal (Grand Magus, Manowar) and the stomping, anthemic grandeur of viking era Bathory. An
impassioned love letter to all that is good and true in the Metal genre.

Very interesting album, which is naturally controlled by epic, ambitious atmospheres and a rhythm section which very rarely becomes dull and bland. The vocals however really don't seem to match the quality of the instrumentation, and thus it sounds a little mixed at times. As on 'Sol Invictus' and 'Twelve stars and an azure down', the guitar work is beautiful and the drum/bass work flows very well indeed, but shoddy vocals which prove considerably weaker unfortunately lower the quality a bit. This is however more than made up for with the brilliance of songs such as 'Hersiarch' and excellent closer 'White goddess unveiled', both of which written from the heart and soul.

Of course a blend of doom and heavy metal with slight power metal spices would be "epic". Not my fav kind of metal but this is undeniably well done with competent musicianship and vocals that are as catchy as they are cheesy.
