Review Summary: A new pop-punk band, that definitely surpassed my expectations.

So it seems I have completely messed up on my reviews, so I'm going to tackle a more obscure band, Emily’s Army, and I will be reviewing their newest album “lost a seventeen”. Coming in to this I wasn't expecting much as this is a new pop-punk band and the album named seemed a little cliché. But I was legitimately surprised I like the power pop influenced punk this band creates.

First of lets discuss what I like with the album, the social commentary. Songs like “Part Time and Bum” and “Gubermesch” had great and clever lyrics without trying to be too serious. I also enjoyed the simple/classic punk instrumentation. They did not add any sort of weird studio polish to it, minus some guitar “solos” here and there. As is stated earlier this album doesn't take itself too seriously and the fun sound of the album benefits from it. Yeah, I said it a fun-punk album, the last time I had some fun with pop-punk was probably back when Sum41 and Good Charlotte were listenable. So if you like some good “Dookie” fun, this is one you got to check out. Also the songs are very catchy, and that is just great. The artist don’t take themselves too seriously, and that doesn't give the album a fake-artsy feel. So why I love this album it just simple and fun. It’s just a great listener.

One of my problems with the album is a few of the songs sounded a little too pop-punk cliché like “Avenue”. Another problem I have is with the album is the lead singer, I've heard worse, but Becker but he does put allot of energy into it. It also sounds like he is trying to imitate British accent, whether that's intentional or not. But don’t get too worked up the album is still very listenable. The last I problem I have is that I think the album goes on for a little too long, with a few tracks could have been cut out.

So in general this is a great little album to check out. It’s very good fun, energetic pop punk, they are very straightforward, they don’t be something they’re not. There wasn't a lot wrong with this album, but there are a few things in the album that didn't feel right. It’s not quite as memorable as an early Green Day or a Screeching Weasel release.

Please leave constructive criticism, thanks.

There are two lead singers. They are brothers. Max and Cole Becker. Max, for example, does the title tracks, and Cole does I Am the President.
