Review Summary: The world's most average band rises above the expectations of nobody.

This is not the review I wanted to write. The first time I listened to Stargazer, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I figured it was finally an escape from the mediocrity that had plagued Black Majesty since Tomorrowland was released. Unfortunately, from that point on, as I went back to it, I realized this was far from the case. The word of the day is bland: nothing done here is worthy of note at all. Some tracks are slightly better than others, some are slightly worse, but there's really nothing offered by this album that can't be found in a more effective package elsewhere.

To clear the air, I don't think this band is bad. They're just not very good either. They're so incredibly in between that there's hardly anything worth commenting on. The musicianship is alright, but nothing that hasn't been done more effectively elsewhere. The singing is tolerable, but not truly worthy of note. The songwriting is passable, but, as with everything else, there's nothing to put this above anything else currently available. Nothing worth laughing at, nothing worth making into a sacred cow, nothing that needs to exist. They simply occupy space.

And Stargazer is no different. As you listen, you'll hear more of the same and little else. Certain sections may stand out, but nothing worth tolerating the rest of the song or album for. Though some standout tracks bolster the release slightly, it's not enough to make the album worthy of note on the whole.

I don't hate this album. It can be okay if you listen to one song, but running through the entire album in one sitting can be tiring, as there's little being done here that you need to stick around for. In addition, the album feels like it is much longer than it is. There's only so many ways to say that something is mediocre, and the only thing that could influence someone's opinion about this album at all is their personal opinion about the vocals. There's nothing more to say: it's won't impress you, it won't give you cheap laughs, it will just be. And there's little worthy of finding in this offering. At least the album cover looks cool.

Pros:
+Not explicitly bad
+Some tracks are pretty good

Cons:
-Everything is done better by other bands
-Difficult to sit through full album at once
-More of the same

Highlights:
Holy Killers
Voice of Change
Shine

Lowlights:
Lost Horizon
Killing Hand
Journey to the Soul

This review made me really sad. I wanted to like this album, and at first I genuinely did. But the more I listened to it, along with other power metal offerings, the more I found that this is not very good.

Sorry if it seems repetitive, it's hard to write about something so generic.

Trust me, I wanted to like this. The tracks I listed under Highlights are actually good. The rest are mediocre or worse.

Shine is so beautiful that I almost want to bump the album up to a 2.5 or a 3 based on that track alone.

Then I listen to any other track that isn't Holy Killers

Easy 2.5 for me. The album is pretty meh but I can dig it when I'm in the mood. On a side note, I

hate the vocalist's tone.

I'm trying so hard to enjoy this album the way I did when I first heard it. Ugh, this is bringing me down, I just can't.

Bumped my rating to a 2.5, seems a bit more appropriate. It isn't really a bad album, and single tracks can be enjoyable, I keep going back to Voice of Change and Shine. Everything else is pretty forgettable.

The guitar solo in Symphony of Death almost made me keep it at a 2, it's that bad by itself.

Going to be re-writing this review, as the album is gradually creeping its way into my life more frequently. It's really grown on me, and I won't call it a return to form, but it's their strongest effort since Silent Company.
