Review Summary: A band that sounds a little different compared to popular post-hardcore bands today.
Intohimo is a swedish post-hardcore band that has been signed to many labels, but is currently signed to Snapping Fingers Snapping Necks. This short ep is what they believe to be a change of pace from their older material (which sounded alot like other bands that were super influenced by Underoath). This is a short ep for a lesser-known band, so lets get straight into the actual review. Before you actually listen to the ep, you will notice the awesome album artwork. You will also notice that it's a relatively short ep. It is 4 songs long and clocks in at a little over 11 minutes.
Thankfully, they dont have a really short intro for a ep like most other bands do, but instead they have a catchy and good song. Unlike most post-hardcore bands (rise bands), this lacks the chugging and replaces it with clean guitars and clean vocals that sound really good. Notice how I say clean vocals, and not all vocals. Thats because the screams dont sound very good, but thankfully, they are not used too much. Personally, I think they should drop the screams alltogether, and stick with their cleans. The next song is basically an intro, so its nothing special. However, it does have instruments playing, and its not just some atmospheric noice, but still pretty boring. The next two songs sound alike, and they sound good compared to many other bands. They actually have slower sections, and varations on the song pacing that other bands ignore. However, the last song does have a couple breakdowns (which dosnt bother me, but could turn off some people).
In all, this ep is a good listen for fans of post-hardcore that just want another band to listen too. Its pretty enjoyable the whole way through, but nothing that I would go crazy over. If you like this ep, definitely check out their lastest cd.
