Actually, this whole album was Metallica's progressive attempt. Though it's obviously not done very well.

Nice review, however I completely disagree. Well not really. I used to REALLY dislike this album because of its repetitiveness however it grew on me a ton. The only thing that holds this album back is that the repetitiveness starts to irk me after a while

the intro to blackened is pretty sweet

A well done review. I dont exactly agree with your rating, but hey, difference of opinions. If you gave this Metallica such a low rating, I would love to see your rating for St. Anger. St. Anger is the worst metal album ever constructed and officially one of the worst albums of all time (Ive said that too many times on Metallica boards hahahaha). But this album and their 3 predecesors are brilliant.

Good, review all though i disagree. StrizzMatik, Las Ulrich is not the most talented drummer, but he gets the job done and is intensley influential. This is proabably my favortie Metallica album, and a big reason is, Lars pretty much brought the machine gun double kick beats into creation with this album. Now, what metal band these days DONT use that machine gun beats. not many. Good review, I dont particualry like the guitar tone, but i love the riffs and solos.

It is hard to rate this album for me. Blackened, One, Dyers Eve, and Harvestor are all great songs yet this album definitely has some filler and parts of it drag. Still think it is some nice work but greatly falls short of their previous two records.

The jury seems undecided on this one. Interesting.

Haha I agree. Awful album.

I have a very hard time buying that.

St. Anger is bad, but it's definitely not the worst metal album ever. There's Atreyu's entire catalogue to consider, Trivum etc. etc.

Yeah, he exagerated, but this album does have (arguably) Lar's best work on the drums. This Message Edited On 11.11.06

St. Anger is a lot worse than any Atreyu or Trivium album.

I'm not in the mood for an arguement, so I'll just say: I disagree.

Well I'll explain anyway. St. Anger is one of the few albums that I find completely unlistenable. I wouldn't be able to make it through two minutes of that album. With Atreyu and Trivium, I would at least be able to listen to their music even though I don't really like it. St. Anger is just a record that I can't listen to without killing myself.

Ah, well then I'll explain my standpoint, as well. Not in the intent to argue, however. Just to express my opinion and etc. I can bear St. Anger easily, as I've always enjoyed James's vocals. Despite being a repetitive and having no solos I don't mind it at all. In fact, it has some songs I like. I just find that as a whole it's average. Atreyu adn Trivium have always turned me off because of their vocals. Both band's are terrible. Since vocals are generally what the listener here's the most they prevent me from enjoying the instrumental work. Although, I find Atreyu to have bad instrumentals too. Trivium's are pretty good.

I'd take Trivium over St Anger easily. I can't really listen to that one at all.

At least with Trivium you have the funny lyrics interpretations. St. Anger just makes to deafen myself with a screwdriver.

I am aware of this album's faults (Lars playing the custom Tama cardboard boxes and Jason playing air bass for example) but I still love it. Maybe because it was my first Metallica album and my second gig, but I think it's great. So there.

Hahaha.

I used to dig this before, but it's...likeableness(?) wore off pretty fast.

I don't care how complex an album is if it plods along as much as this one does.

For god's sake man, this is more diverse than five of your favorite power metal albums put together.
